A biography of Louisa May Alcott's youngest sister, May, who was the model for "Amy the Artist" in Little Women. With extracts from her mother's journal and her own letters describing her life as an art student in London and Paris. The Prelude was written by the sculptor Daniel Chester French 1850-1931 , a neighbor of the Alcott family in Concord, who was given the clay and modeling tools by May Alcott that helped start his career. Illustrated with drawings by May Alcott and a crayon portrait of her as frontispiece.
