The Old Manse and the People Who Lived There
Let author Paul Brooks take you inside The Old Manse in bucolic Concord, Massachusetts, into one of the country's most historic and beloved homes. Built in 1770 for Patriot Minister William Emerson, this home was witness to two revolutions. Told in clear and graceful prose, Brooks tells the story of all those who called The Manse their home from 1770 until 1939 when it was purchased by The Trustees of Reservation and remains in their care today - Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, painter Edward Emerson Simmons, and some of the most famous and forgotten women of the nineteenth century - Sarah Alden Bradford Ripley, Mary Moody Emerson, Sophia Peabody Hawthorne. You will read and reread this gem.
